Father Walter E. Heinz
Father Walter E. Heinz was born in Glenshaw, Pa. He attended St. John Vianney Seminary for his high school, college and theology training and Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, where he received a master’s degree in Educational Administration in 1966. He was ordained in 1962, at St.Peter Church, Steubenville. His first ministry was as instructor and vice principal of St. John Central High School, Bellaire. He later was principal of St. Joseph Central High School, Ironton. Father Heinz served as administrator of St. John Vianney Church, Powhatan Point, and St. Mary, Pine Grove. He has pastured at St. Michael, Carlisle, and St. Mary, Fulda. In 1985, he was appointed pastor at St. Anthony Church, Steubenville, and in 1990 moved to our Sacred Heart Church where he has served on the diocesan College of Consultors. He has served four terms on the Council of Priests. He has also served four terms on the Priests’ Retirement Board. Father Heinz has been very active as a board member and Chairman for the Mentally Challenged and Developmentally Disabled in Noble and Meigs Counties. He is a member of the Meigs county board of Cooperative Parish Ministries, ecumenical outreach initiative, and serves as a board member of God’s Net, an ecumenical youth center. Father Heinz has also been very involved in prison ministry at the Hocking Correctional Facility in Nelsonville for many years. |
